Legion of Shadows

After 10 years of creating some amazing tracks of atmospheric music, the kind that is welcomed in any dungeon or crypt, Nox Arcana has released their latest CD which is a tribute to their fans, entitled Legion of Shadows. Listening to a Nox Arcana CD is like slipping into an old coat or shirt, something so familiar, so comfortable, and relaxing at the same time. It immediately brings the listener to a place where darkness envelopes you, but while some would be scared, for people like us, it seems to calm you, creating a peacefulness amongst the sounds coming from your speakers. The echoing notes from the piano, the low chanting in the background, the wailing moans and screams, all come together to create another masterful piece of atmospheric splendor. We've been a fan/follower of Nox Arcana from the very beginning and have enjoyed each and every one of their releases. And I think it is so cool that they have decided to pay tribute to their fans with their latest CD. They have once again filled a CD with over an hour's worth of music filled with quiet and peaceful sounds and melodies, that is just perfect for a quiet evening reading some "quant and curious volume of some forgotten lore", or even just as a background filler while you're working on something. In other words, buy this CD, listen to it's music, and join the Legion of Shadows. For as they say, we are many.

Legion of Shadows is yet another excellent release from Nox Arcana and is well worth purchasing. Haunters and Halloween fanatics will appreciate how all tracks are suitable for individual looping (and how it can be used with pretty much any spooky theme). Looping the entire album while handing out candy on October 31st is also a great use of it. As always, the liner notes feature beautiful illustrations and other goodies. But the good news doesn’t end there! Band member William Piotrowski has created the soundtrack for the vampire movie Crimson Winter. Said score has been described as a mix of Nox Arcana and the work of György Ligeti and is available as a separate album. It truly is a great time to be a Nox Arcana fan.

To a large degree you know what you will get with a Nox Arcana album. This outfit produces music that is atmospheric, pretty and very dark. It's perfect for Halloween. It would be a good introduction to the Nox Arcana musical experience or a great addition to a growing collection.

Legion of Shadows commemorates 10 years of fantastic frightening music from the band. It has been dedicated to Nox Arcana’s fanbase, who are known by the same title as the record. What makes this album special is that many of its concepts take inspiration from fan submissions and creations from all around the world.
       Traditionally, Nox Arcana albums have had an overarching theme or setting within the stories they tell. What makes Legion of Shadows different is that it is an anthology that delves into short stories created by the fans and for the fans. The stories vary from forgotten memories and fallen grandeur to the darkness residing in our souls to much more. These tracks contain a wide variety of themes and moods. We have quite an eclectic mix throughout the album; the gloom and drama of "Distant Memories", "Loveless", and "Haunted Dreams"; the ominous mystery of "Ancient Flame", "Dreamscape", "Into the Night" and "Rites of Passage"; and even the intense power of "Toccata", "On Dark Wings", "Legion of Shadows", and "Black Pheonix." All of these blend in a fantastic array of emotion and sound; showcasinging the variety of styles of Nox Arcana as a testament to their talents. My personal favorites are in my opinion, the most atmospheric! "Evil genius" captures the chaotic frenzy of a crazed scientist, toiling over some elaborate experiment. Plus, you can never go wrong with Toccata and Fugue, remixed with Nox Arcana’s gothic horrorscapes.

Nox Arcana delivers yet another riveting, haunting, heart pulsating, and gothic album. I only wish they would dedicate a 21 track album to the mental condition known as Insonmia and put Insonmia into musical interpretation! Also an album dedicated to the Fallen ArchAngel Lucifer! The Dark Father of us all and the Master Shadow of the Legion! The album is fantastic and a wonder for all who relish in gothic, eerie, haunting, and spine chilling melodies. So what are you waiting for? Buy this album and become a member of the Legion of Shadows yourself. We await you.

Are you a fan of Edger Allen Poe? His writing style that can put goose bumps up and down your spine. Nox Arcana is the musical verison of Poe. Putting the same goose bumps up and down your spince, this time in music. Turn out the lights, take up your favorite cool one, increase the volume and melt into the music.

For dark, somber, powerful, gothic music, Nox Arcana is tough to beat. Put this disk to playing on some dark (and maybe) stormy night and sit yourself down to a good gothic ghost story. Enough to give you nightmares perhaps. Great mood music for the spooky and creepy. Best not be in the castle alone, however.

Good backdrop for RPGs, Halloween parties, war games, etc.

I've been a huge Nox Arcana fan for over 10 years, and I love each and every one of their CD's. And this one doesn't fail me in the slightest bit. I don't think that they could ever put out a bad one. The darker the better!

Hey, it's Nox Arcana, there's not much more that needs to be said. I have every single disc from them and have never been disappointed. This music is great for Halloween, or fantasy, or to just listen at any time.

This one of my favorite Nox Arcana CDs (nothing can top Transylvania, but this comes close). I'm no music expert. All I can tell you is that it's great mood music when I'm writing.

This is for all that like creepy & spooky music, one of many in my collection. Just fantastic for Halloween or Spooky party's any time of the year. A real mixed bundle of fine tunes lyrics and a few sound affects thrown in all at the right time so as not to spoil this fab album and many others like it from Nox Arcana. Five Gold Stars for best horror music going so try not to miss out.

Joseph Vargo, Maestro of the Shadows does not disappoint with his newest creation. Dark yet beautiful Legion of Shadows really sets the mood during the months when the sun sets sooner and the nights get crisper. Add the fact the he created this album as a love letter to his fans on Nox Arcana's 10 year anniversary...magnificent.

Love this album too... I am a big fan of piano music and Nox Arcana. My favorites are Toccata, Evil Genius, Loveless, and Ghost In The Mirror. As a composer myself I really can appreciate Joseph's work!!
